Relations between Russia and the United States interfered with the witch hunt, but it is now over. This was stated by American President Donald Trump. He also said that he considers relations between countries "good."

“I think the relationship is good. We are trying to have good relations (with Russia. - RT ). It was very hard in the light of the witch hunt, which is now dead, ”RIA Novosti quotes him.

Trump's witch hunt has repeatedly called the investigation of Special Prosecutor Robert Muller about Russia's “interference” in the 2016 US presidential election. In April, a report with the results of this investigation was officially published. According to the document, the special prosecutor and his team did not find evidence of a “conspiracy” between Trump’s election headquarters and Russia. As the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed, the report also contains no arguments in support of the theory of any "interference" of Moscow in elections in principle.

“There is nothing in it that would attract attention, it actually confirms the absence of any argument that Russia allegedly interfered in the American elections. Not a single proof is present there, ”said Georgy Borisenko, director of the North American department at the Russian Foreign Ministry.

And in late July, an American court rejected the lawsuit from the National Committee of the Democratic Party (NKDP) against, in which they spoke about the cooperation of the election headquarters of Trump with the Russian Federation in 2016. Commenting on the decision of the court, the US president called him a victory over the most ambitious "political scam" in the history of the country.

“Yesterday’s trial is a tremendous victory over the“ Russian mystification ”, which was the greatest political scam in the history of our country. Betrayal! I hope the US Attorney General and everyone who works with him will find out in the smallest detail what happened. We won't let that happen anymore! ”Trump wrote on his Twitter.

However, despite the findings of the investigation by Special Prosecutor Muller, representatives of the Democratic Party continue to use statements about Trump's "ties" with Russia. So, the Democratic senator from the state of California, Kamala Harris, during a televised debate, called for Trump to be brought to justice.

“We all watched the speech (Mueller in the US Congress - RT ), I read the report. It contains ten direct indications of obstruction of justice by this president, who should be held accountable, ”she said.

Trump's opponents use Muller’s investigation into the political struggle ahead of the US presidential election in 2020, political analyst Yury Svetov believes.

“The meaning of all the statements of the Democrats is: what else is not completely, what it all was, but the Muller Commission did not work persistently; if you still try to exert yourself, you will find evidence of this. Before the election, all this will continue. I think that only Trump's victory can close this topic, ”he told RT.

“USA is a country split”

It is worth noting that on the eve of Trump's statement about “good relations” with Russia, the US State Department announced new anti-Russian sanctions related to the incident in British Salisbury, where, allegedly, ex-employee of the GRU, Sergey Skripal and his daughter Yulia were poisoned. To this end, on August 1, Trump signed a decree concerning the application of sanctions to other countries on the basis of the 1991 American Law on the Control of Chemical and Biological Weapons.

“Today, in accordance with the Chemical and Biological Weapons Control Act and the prohibition of its combat use of 1991 (CBW Law), the United States announces a second package of sanctions against Russia for the use of the newcomer nerve agent (A-234. - RT) in an attempt to kill Sergey Skrypal and his daughter Yulia Skripal in the United Kingdom on March 4, 2018, ”the document says. At the same time, evidence of the involvement of the Russian Federation in the incident was not provided.

Sanctions relate to three directions. For example, the US government should oppose international financial organizations (including the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund), which provide financial and technical support to Russia.

The second direction concerns American banks - they are prohibited from trading in the market of primary non-ruble bonds of the sovereign debt of Russia, as well as issuing non-ruble loans to the Russian government. The third paragraph introduces restrictions on the export of a number of goods and technologies.

These restrictions will take effect from August 19th. The previous package of sanctions in connection with the case of Skripale was introduced in the summer of 2018.

The contradiction between Trump's words and the announced sanctions is explained by the internal political split in the USA, says Yury Pochta, professor of the Department of Comparative Political Science at RUDN University.

"He has a contradictory reaction, but the United States itself is a country split between the extreme liberals who control the media, in many respects the financial system and still control the deep state, and between that part of the population that is linked to real national interests," he said RT .
