Horst Seehofer: Minister of the Interior plans more controls also on the border to Switzerland
After the deadly attack in Frankfurt, Horst Seehofer announced event-related border controls. He also plans new security measures at stations.
Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU) wants "everything in order to make intelligent controls at the border", as he told the news magazine Der Spiegel . According to the Federal Interior Minister, the German authorities registered 43,000 unauthorized entries into Germany last year. "We have to deal with this circumstance, through an extended veiling investigation and occasional, temporary checks also at the border - also on the border to Switzerland." Seehofer wants to present a concept for this by September.
Reason for his considerations is a deadly attack at the Frankfurt main station. On Monday, an Eritrean living near Zurich had a child and his mother in front of an ICE. The woman survived. The child died.
According to Spiegel , Seehofer has not yet talked about his plans with the chancellor. Unlike a year ago, when the dispute over the borders had almost led to the breakup of the Union factions, but threaten this time no conflict with Angela Merkel, the Minister believes: "I know the Chancellor in these security issues fully on my line."
Lock on the platform
In addition, the CSU politician wants to introduce more arrangements for the security at stations. Locks or locks, as used in London or Paris at platforms, should be at least discussed.
In September, there will be a meeting with Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU), the railway board and experts in railway safety, announced Seehofer. The cost of the measures could go into the billions of euros: "Over the years, we will not get along with a million," says the Federal Interior Minister the magazine.
