What's behind the idea?
After the European Championships last year in Glasgow and Berlin, at which the European Championships of several sports were held simultaneously, now several German championships are held again centrally in the German capital. Through the multisport event, those in charge hope for more spectators for the individual disciplines, in whose title fights otherwise too often only friends and family members sit in the audience.
In which sports do title fights take place?
Ten German championships are on the program. In addition to athletes, swimmers, gymnasts, track cyclists, archers and boxers also determine the canoeists and modern pentathletes their title holders as well as in cycling trial and triathlon.
Who are the stars?
Javelin thrower Olympic champion Thomas Röhler and local hero Lisa Unruh - silver medalist in the archery of Rio - bring just as Olympic glitter to the capital as the three-time canoe Olympic champion Sebastian Brendel. Sprint star Gina Lückenkemper wants to shine over 100 meters. Master honors are Elisabeth Seitz and Sophie Scheder. Ironman World Champion Patrick Lange also arrives in Berlin. For many athletes, the finals are beginning the hot phase of preparation and qualification for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
Where do the championships take place exactly?
Ten championships - ten venues all over Berlin: Already on Tuesday, the boxers in the historic dome hall in the Olympic Park started with their fights. A day later began the championships in the cycling in the Velodrome, where the Leipzig Felix Gross for the first time secured the title in the 4000 -meter individual pursuit.
On Thursday, the swimmers in the jumping and jumping hall in the Europa Sportpark, the World Cup Second Sarah Köhler defended superior to their title over 1500 meters freestyle.
On Saturday and Sunday the athletes in the Olympic Stadium and the gymnasts in the Max-Schmeling-Halle are required. In addition to the hall, the trial competitions will be held in the Jahn Sports Park.
On the Olympic Square a small stadium for the triathletes, archers and modern pentathletes will be built. The modern pentathletes are also in the Olympic Park on the road, the triathletes begin their competitions in the beach Wannsee. In the championships of athletes, swimming, boxing and gymnastics and track bike tickets must be purchased, which cost depending on the sport and seating position between 7.50 and 40.00 euros. Archery, Modern Pentathlon, Triathlon, Cycling Trial and Canoeing can be followed for free.
