“Aviation of the Ministry of Defense of Russia in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Irkutsk Region extinguished 84 forest fires in a total area of 113 thousand hectares for two days,” the report says.
It is noted that the Il-76 aircraft made 34 sorties, the crews of the Mi-8 helicopters made over 100 sorties.
Earlier, the EMERCOM of Russia reported that at present, 388 fires are still operating in Yakutia, the Irkutsk Region and the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, Colonel-General Vladimir Shamanov, in an interview with the ANF, noted that the scale of fires in the Far Eastern Siberian zone exceeded the capabilities of the Emergencies Ministry, so the Defense Ministry forces were involved.
