Defending European champion Matteo Trentin of Italy will spend next year on the Australian team Mitchelton at the CCC training, the Poles announced on Friday.

Winner of the Gap stage in the recent Tour de France, Trentin has committed for two years.

"We saw it on the Tour, it can not only sprint but it can also climb," said Jim Ochowicz, head of Polish training. "He is only 30 years old, we think his best is yet to come".

"In the classics, Greg Van Avermaet is always on top in all races and I am more and more present, so I think we will have more opportunities to run together in the same team," said Trentin .

The Italian said his career goals: "I still miss a victory, or even a podium, in a great classic.I would also like to target the jersey point ranking in a grand tour."

Trentin, who has 23 victories, including at least one stage in the three big rounds, started his career in 2012 on the Quick-Step team before joining Mitchelton in 2018.
