The US embassy in Sudan said Thursday that the United States stands with the Sudanese people in demonstrations demanding the formation of a government led by civilians.

The embassy said in a tweet on Twitter that the expected government must shoulder its responsibilities transparently and achieve peace and stability, respect human rights, and lead to the recovery of the economy in Sudan.

Hundreds of thousands of Sudanese were demonstrating across the country to demand accountability for the killing of students in the northern city of Kordofan during a protest in the city on Monday.

The US embassy in Khartoum said earlier this month that the lifting of Sudan from the list of state sponsors of terrorism is imminent.
