The ship Alan Kurdi of the German NGO Sea-Eye was Thursday, August 1, off the island of Lampedusa with 40 rescued migrants near Libya. But it is blocked in turn by a veto from the Italian government.

After sailing north all night, the Alan Kurdi stopped this Thursday at midday off Lampedusa, on the edge of Italian territorial waters. NGO Sea-Eye reports that 40 migrants from West Africa are on board, including a pregnant woman, three young children, a man shot and two survivors of the bombing that killed dozens of migrants early July in the detention center of Tajoura, near Tripoli.

On board the #AlanKurdi are also two survivors of the attack on the detention center in #Tajoura, in which over 50 people were killed.

The cycle of flight, rejection and violence must be ended.

Matteo Salvini, Italian Minister of the Interior and leader of the extreme right wing La Ligue, denounced " an extreme provocation in the Mediterranean from a German NGO " and accused the helpers to behave " in a mean manner ". On Wednesday, he signed a decree banning Italian waters from the humanitarian ship. According to his ministry, the Ministers of Defense and Transport, both from the Five Star Movement, also signed their initials.

"It's important that we are where our place is"

Last week, the Gregoretti , an Italian coastguard, found himself in the same situation off Lampedusa. The 116 migrants on board were finally allowed to land yesterday after a European allocation agreement . " It's a good thing people have been allowed to leave the ship, but it's hopeless that it took so long, " said RFI spokeswoman Sea-Eye spokeswoman Carlotta Weissl.

It is not only about the suffering of the migrants who are forced to stay on board, but also and especially of all those who must be rescued at sea, she insists. " In recent weeks, there have been many departures from Libya, there are always more in the summer. There was this terrible shipwreck last week that killed nearly 150 people. There is a lot going on and it is important that we be where our place is, as a relief boat, not waiting off Lampedusa, "continued Carlotta Weissl.

At the end of June, the Sea-Watch 3 decided to brave the ban on landing in Italy to land its migrants at Lampedusa. The Italian justice has invalidated the arrest of its captain Carola Rackete, but the ship has since been in receivership.
