The procession demanded justice after the deaths of young demonstrators shot dead Monday. On Thursday, August 1, at least four protesters were killed and many more wounded, in a new shooting that occurred in Omdurman, Sudan, said a committee of doctors linked to the protest movement.

Hundreds of thousands of people had gathered in this city on the Nile, on the opposite bank of Khartoum, the capital. "Four protesters were killed by live ammunition and several were wounded at a rally in Omdurman," the committee said in a statement.

The announcement of these new deaths comes as opposition representatives have reported progress in discussions with the military.

During a press conference in Khartoum, Satea al-Hajj, a leader of the opposition opposition Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC), announced on Thursday afternoon that the negotiators were "close" to an agreement. The discussions were to resume in the day, said his side a spokesman for the military council.

More than 250 dead since December

Since December, the repression of the protest has killed more than 250 people, including 127 demonstrators killed on June 3 in the brutal dispersal of a sit-in organized in Khartoum to claim a civilian power, according to a committee of doctors close to the challenge .

A poor country with a bloodless economy, Sudan has been in the throes of protest since December. Triggered after the tripling of the price of bread, the demonstrations turned into opposition to President Omar al-Bashir, dismissed and arrested by the army on April 11 after thirty years in power.

The trial of Omar El Bashir, charged with corruption, will open on August 17, announced Wednesday two of his lawyers.
