"According to the preliminary version of the investigation, from March 22 to August 1, 2019, officials of the Ministry of Forestry of the Krasnoyarsk Territory did not take measures aimed at eliminating forest fires, and therefore the fires spread to large areas," the statement said.
The ministry also reported that investigative actions and operational measures are being taken, the question of the appointment and production of necessary examinations is being carried out, witnesses are being questioned, searches are conducted in the Ministry of Forestry of the Region, the regional department of the Emergencies Ministry of Russia and the KAU “Forest Fire Center”.
Earlier, the chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin sent investigators to the regions of Siberia and the Far East to determine the causes of fires.
