“Throughout the past week, we actively interacted with the management and specialists of Ozon to check the media’s information about the leak of 400,000 customers of the online store,” spokesman for the agency Vadim Ampelonsky told reporters. He is quoted by RIA Novosti.

According to Ampelonsky, Ozon experts presented a "convincing argument" in favor of the fact that the publicly available database "was compiled by unknown persons from various sources."

“Over 90% of the“ compromised ”data is a product of password auto-generation. At the same time, about 30 thousand “login - password” pairs turned out to be genuine, ”he said.

After the incident, the company's specialists made "the replacement of compromised passwords and notified the users about it."

“One gets the impression of unfair competition and an attempt by unknown attackers to compromise Ozon,” Ampelonsky added.

Earlier, the media reported that more than 450 thousand addresses and user passwords for logging into Ozon were in open access.

After that, Roskomnadzor stated that they would require explanations from the store regarding data leakage.
