An investigation was opened after the death of Mamoudou Barry, a young Guinean academic, violently attacked Friday night near Rouen. At the microphone of Europe 1, his lawyer wants to be reserved on the links that led to his "assassination".

REACTION

For his relatives, there is no doubt: Mamoudou Barry, a 31-year-old Guinean, has been the victim of a racist crime. Blows of blows shortly before the final of the Africa Cup of Nations between Algeria and Senegal on Friday night, the young teacher-researcher died the next day at the hospital in Rouen. "Indeed, there were racist remarks referring to the skin color of Mr. Barry," confirms on Europe 1 the family lawyer, Me Jonas Haddad.

"Black sales"

Police sources, Mamoudou Barry was attacked in Canteleu, in the suburbs of Rouen. "The facts would have been committed between 8 pm and 9 pm, subject to the outcome of future investigations," said the prosecutor Rouen Pascal Prache in a message to AFP. According to a "close friend" of the victim, Kalil Aissata Kéita, himself a Guinean and a teacher-researcher at the University of Rouen, "the aggressor pointed them out and said: 'You black dirty, we go you fuck tonight '".

Then in his car with his wife, Mamadou Barry "came out, just to have explanations on why the insult was made against him," said Jonas Haddad to Europe 1. "Immediately, he He was punched and kicked, which caused his fall, and he fell head first on the ground with the edge of a bus stop, which caused the fatal injuries. "

An assault committed by an Algerian supporter?

According to Kalil Aissata Keita, the aggressor was "Maghrebian type" but "we do not know if it is an Algerian". "I saw a lot of things on the social networks that evoked the proximity to the Algeria-Senegal match," also notes the family council. "The investigators really have to do their job to study the links and motives that led, first of all, to these racist remarks, and then to that aggression that led to the assassination of Mr. Barry."

On Twitter, several politicians, such as MP LR Éric Ciotti, Vaucluse Julien Aubert, or Julien Odoul, member of the national office of the RN, for their part did not hesitate to denounce "a racist crime perpetrated by Algerian fans ".

And if we were talking about a real racist act committed in France last Friday? Dr #MamadouBarry was beaten to death by his Algerian supporters who believed he was Senegalese. It was in France, in 2019. @CCastaner, that's hate. Who speaks about it? pic.twitter.com/YXJn21tqAK

If #MamoudouBarry had been killed by a Thomas or Enzo, his photo would be posted everywhere and the media would stop their programs. A day of mourning would be decreed and the Eiffel Tower would go out. A racist crime committed by an Algerian "supporter" does not interest anyone pic.twitter.com/UIsEzdmVVx
