Canadian director James Cameron on Monday congratulated the team of the movie "Avengers", which dethroned this weekend his "Avatar" in the head of the biggest global recipes of all time.

"Oel Ngati Kameie", the director wrote on his Twitter account, referring to an expression of the Na'vi people, represented in "Avatar", which means "I see you", evoking a relationship with others.

"Congratulations to + Avengers: Endgame + for becoming the king of the box office," James Cameron continued.

With $ 2.790 billion in revenue worldwide, the latest installment of Avengers is now the film that has most reported in the history of cinema, ahead of "Avatar" and its 2,789 billion.

It took almost a decade for a movie to exceed "Avatar", released in December 2009. The comparison is in constant dollars, but if the ranking included inflation, Avatar would still have several steps ahead of "Avengers: Endgame ".

Four new parts of "Avatar" are already planned, with releases in December, 2021, December 2023, December 2025 and December 2027.

After buying most of the assets of 21st Century Fox, Disney is now leading the "Avatar" and Marvel franchises, which are in seven of the top ten biggest hits of all time.

"We must pay tribute to James Cameron, who has held the record for a long time," said Marvel studio president Kevin Feige on Saturday at the Comic-Con show in San Diego, California. "Avatar" having dethroned another film of the Canadian director, "Titanic", James Cameron has indeed held the record for more than 20 years.

"If you adjust inflation, he still holds the title and he will probably get it back as soon as he releases a new film," the leader added.
