Algerian opposition parties on Sunday set conditions for participation in the dialogue proposed by the Authority, the most important of which is the "release of political prisoners" and "the departure of the symbols of the regime", the demands of the protest movement witnessed by the country since last February.

The opposition said in a joint statement: "There is no seriousness to any political attempt, whatever its nature or any political dialogue, to achieve conditions such as the release of all political prisoners, and detainees of opinion and open the political and media space and the departure of all symbols of the regime."

The transitional president Abdulqadir bin Saleh, who took office after the resignation of Abdelaziz Bouteflika on April 2 last, called for a dialogue "led by independent national figures" and does not share power or the army with the sole aim of organizing presidential elections as soon as possible.
