54,000 in Germany: Volvo recalls 500,000 cars in the workshop

Gothenburg (dpa) - The Swedish car maker Volvo Cars recalls around half a million vehicles in the workshops worldwide. The reason for this is a component in the engine compartment, which could melt, said a Volvo spokesman for the German Press Agency.
In the worst case, this could cause the engine to start burning. However, reports of personal injury or accidents have not been received by Volvo Cars. According to the spokesman, 54,000 Volvo vehicles in Germany are affected by the recall.
According to the Swedish TV station SVT, it is about models with four-cylinder diesel engines, which were built in the years 2014 to 2019. These include, among others, the V40, V60, V70, S80, XC60 and XC90.
For the company, which belongs to the Chinese carmaker Geely, it is the second bad news within a week. Only on Thursday, the vehicle manufacturer had reported a sharp slump despite significantly increasing sales for the second quarter of 2019.
