Méteo France is planning a new episode of heat wave next week. The intensity of this hot episode will be comparable to that of last June.

Take out the fans. According to Météo-France, the mercury will rise sharply Sunday night almost throughout France. Temperatures will reach between 30 and 35 ° C in the northern half and between 35 and 39 ° C in the south. Which regions are most affected? How to explain such a phenomenon and what attitude to adopt in these cases? Europe 1 takes stock with François Jobard, forecaster at Météo France.

What can we expect?

A new heat wave begins on Sunday night over a large part of the hexagon. "The intensity of this hot episode will be comparable to that of last June," says François Jobard. "Temperature records will not necessarily be beaten, but this time more regions will be affected".

The temperatures will reach between 30 and 35 ° C on the northern half and between 35 and 39 ° C in the south as early as Monday or even Sunday evening in some departments. But locally the 40 ° can be reached from South-West to Central-East and from Languedoc to Provence. A large Northeast quarter could also be concerned. "The maximum temperatures will be around 10 degrees above normal in the season," said Francois Jobard. "It should be 38 ° in Toulouse instead of 28 °, 35 ° in Paris instead of 25 ° for example".

This hot episode is expected to last a good part of the week. "At least until Thursday, but it is too early to say for the weekend and the weekend that will follow," said the forecaster.

How to explain this new wave of heat?

According to Météo France, this new heat wave episode is explained by the conjunction of several factors: an anticyclonic blocking, - "which means that hot air located at altitude blocks the disturbances", says François Jobard - and the presence of very hot air in the lower layers from Morocco and Spain. "Global warming is no stranger," says the forecaster. "In North Africa, the temperatures are now higher, we expect 50 ° in the Sahara for example, the air mass that arrives on Europe is warmer."

What attitude to adopt in case of heat wave?

In case of heat wave, simple reflexes can be adopted. The first is to drink water in reasonable quantities without waiting to be thirsty. It is advisable to focus on foods that are rich in water, but not too much.

To refresh, you can take cool (but not cold) showers or think of the fogger, splash your arms, legs and create a draft with a newspaper or a fan. Any effort too intense, such as running, should be avoided.

It is also recommended to cool its interior by closing the shutters during the day and aerating at night from 22h. For those who own an air conditioner, it is not recommended to make it work too hard to avoid too big temperature variations.
