The State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine (GDI) conducts 11 criminal cases against the ex-president of the country, Petro Poroshenko, and other top officials of Ukraine. On Wednesday at a briefing, said the head of department Roman Truba.

“These are proceedings (cases - RT ) - from the possible legalization of proceeds from crime to possible interference in the activities of judges,” he said.

Pipe said that on Wednesday, July 17, Poroshenko did not appear for questioning as a witness in the case of possible tax evasion and the legalization of income received from the sale of the Forge Rybalsky plant in Kiev. The policy will be called in for questioning again. Earlier it was noted that we are talking about the legalization of $ 300 million criminal proceeds through offshore companies.

As stated by the lawyer of the ex-president of Ukraine Igor Golovan, his client is now engaged in “election-related activities.” Therefore, Golovan asked to postpone the interrogation of Poroshenko. Recall the parliamentary elections in the country will be held on July 21.

“We will go to meet. He (Poroshenko - RT ) will be summoned for the next interrogation after the elections, ”said Trub.

In addition, the State Security Bureau earlier initiated investigative measures against the ex-president on suspicion of treason and an attempt to seize power. It is noted that the incident in the Kerch Strait was the reason for this case. Recall, on November 25, a group of ships of the Ukrainian Navy made a provocation: the ships crossed the Russian border, did not obey the demands of the border guards to stop and, in violation of all norms, tried to go from the Black Sea to the Azov Sea.

Poroshenko also repeatedly accused of involvement in corruption crimes and the legalization of illegal income.

"Strange trend"

Member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Anton Morozov considers it logical that Ukraine decided to study the activities of Poroshenko as head of state. In an interview with RT, he explained that it was no coincidence that these cases surfaced less than a week before the parliamentary elections.

“The fact that now law enforcement agencies have taken up the investigation of relevant facts, probably, from a legal point of view, it makes sense. But in general in Ukraine there is a rather strange tendency, when the new president arranges persecution of the old one, ”noted Morozov.

"Let's see how it will end"

The fact of the beginning of investigative actions still does not say anything, said Ukrainian political scientist and economist Alexander Dudchak.

“I think that they have quite rightly brought up criminal cases. I believe that new cases will be initiated in the future, after the change of power. For example, against the prosecutor general, against the former acting president (position invented by the “Maidan”) and against many other participants in the coup d'état in Ukraine ... This is a positive sign. Let's see how this ends. Because while all the officials who have disorganized Ukraine feel comfortable, ”the expert noted.

According to Dudchak, it is quite possible that the investigation will prove Poroshenko’s involvement in various crimes, and then the ex-head of state could face a real deadline. The expert did not rule out that the new leadership of the country may be interested in such a development of events.

“He can already be responsible for what he has done, although it is not only Poroshenko who should be responsible,” the political scientist concluded.

“Political Decision”

Dmitry Abzalov, President of the Center for Strategic Communications, also notes that it is no coincidence that the accusations against Poroshenko are made just before the parliamentary elections.

“The voter makes a decision within a week. Now undecided - about 30%. In this regard, this is a political decision, it is aimed at maintaining the rating of the party “Servant of the People” (the party of Vladimir Zelensky. - RT ), ”said Abzalov in an interview with RT.

In his opinion, now the rivalry between the former President of Ukraine and the new head of state continues. According to Abzalov, Zelensky is seeking to take away Poroshenko’s votes in the elections to the Rada, and the former Ukrainian leader is trying to discredit the new leadership of the country. Abzalov believes that closer to the fall, voters will become increasingly apparent weak spots in the economic program of Zelensky, and then Poroshenko will try to add fuel to the fire.

“The moment after the parliamentary elections, when Zelensky will get control over law enforcement agencies, will be very important. It is extremely important for him to approve his Attorney General, as well as the heads of the SBU, NABU and the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, ”said Abzalov.
