"Urban development and smart cities" is the theme of the 2019 edition of RFI's Challenge App Africa contest, launched this year with the emission of 7 billion neighbors.

For the fourth consecutive year, RFI is partnering with Engie Africa, Societe Generale, Africa Global Recycling, Schneider Electric and several other local players to launch the next edition of the RFI Challenge App Africa contest. neighbors .

The competition is open to all young Africans and entrepreneurs wishing to submit a mobile solution in the form of an innovative web application on the field of "Smart City".

According to a February 2017 World Bank report , "By 2025, African cities will be home to 187 million more people, the equivalent of Nigeria's current population ."

One solution would be the establishment of a " smart city ", a city whose objective is the improvement of urban services: better waste management, energy supply, while being part of sustainability , respect for the environment and cost reduction.

The RFI Challenge App Africa aims to support the emergence of this city through an application, website, SMS service or other form of digital service (Push-Wap, MMS, Wap and Web, Audiotel ...) mobile / in mobility at the service of local life, mobility, renovation of habitats, land securitization, connected waste management and especially the adaptation of the city to the ecological transition.

The competition is also intended to promote the integration of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the field of "smart city" as well as to encourage start-ups and developers on the African continent.

How to be a candidate?

The participants must propose here a project in French, innovative, relevant and applicable in French-speaking Africa. It must involve associations or actors of civil society in Africa. The three finalists will be invited to present their project next December in Dakar before a jury of professionals chaired by Emmanuelle Bastide . The laureate will receive funding for the development of his project.
