Word War within the ruling coalition in Ethiopia. Two major parties, the Tiger Liberation Front (TPLF) and the Ameri- can Democratic Party (ADP), have been in the vanguard since the coup attempt was foiled almost three weeks ago. The operation led to the deaths of senior leaders, including the president of the Amhara region and the chief of the army.

It was the TPLF that opened hostilities. The Tigrayan ethnic party accused the ADP of Amharas of " collaborating with ultra-nationalist forces " and " endangering the country's security ".

" The ADP must make a public apology. Otherwise, it will be difficult for us to continue working with them, "said the TPLF.

The ADP refused to apologize and denounced " appalling " remarks, before accusing, in turn, the TPLF of having fostered insecurity.

" They will never change and continue their corrupt way of playing politics, " said ADP.

In the background, ethnic issues are not far off. Killed by the security forces, General Tsige, alleged brain of the coup attempt, was a member of the ADP.

The assassinated chief of staff, Seare Mekonnen, was from the Tigrayan minority. However, the long-ruling TPLF party has lost its influence since the arrival of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who is an Oromo.

" The movement seeks to weaken the ADP that has always been a rival. He may want to trap him, to regain influence in the majority, "analyzes an Ethiopian journalist.

Researcher Kietill Tronvoll sees this as a worrying sign. " The statement of the TPLF is the clearest signal of a possible dislocation of the majority, " says the specialist.
