Congolese police conducted this week a large anti-crime operation in Kinshasa. She announces to have arrested a hundred people and recovered stolen vehicles.

Monday, July 8, in the commune of Kitambo. It is 8 pm and Komoriko Avenue is blocked. Uniformed and plainclothes police set up a checkpoint. The queue is long. All vehicles are searched, driver's license and pink cards sifted.

The next morning, the police deployed in some areas of Lingwala commune. Dozens of people are arrested. According to General Sylvano Kasongo, police chief of Kinshasa, the deployment of the police was circumscribed in these districts. " We had names and addresses, and it was targeted, " he said.

The operation, one of the most important since the arrival in power of Felix Tshisekedi, has allowed the arrest of a hundred people. According to the police, several types of criminals are among the people arrested: armed robbers, car thieves and members of a network specialized in kidnapping. These people will be presented to the press this Friday.

Police have warned that more roadblocks will be installed in the coming days, but in an ad hoc manner.
