Algeria, impressive in the first round, gets down to business in this 2019 CAN with the round of 16 against Guinea, which finished third nation in the group stage. The face-to-face meeting between the Fennecs and the national Syli is to be followed at 21h Paris time (19h UTC) Sunday 7 July.

Is it really good to be a favorite in this CAN 2019 ? Not necessarily. Morocco, despite its ambitions, was well out in the round of 16 by Benin . Even more staggering was the defeat of Egypt at home against South Africa on Saturday. Algeria will undoubtedly keep any hasty triumphalism before entering the phase of direct elimination of the competition. The demonstration of the first round (first place in Group C, three wins in three games, no goal conceded) still gives a boost of confidence to the Greens of Djamel Belmadi before facing Guinea this Sunday, July 7 at the stadium of June 30 Cairo. The national Syli struggled to score his ticket to the knockout stages. First frustrated in group B by Madagascar (2-2), then beaten by Nigeria (1-0), the men of Paul Put finally dominated Burundi (2-0) and finished at the top of the classified teams third of the first round. Algeria is warned: in this CAN, outsiders have the wind in their sails.
