The visit of the emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, to the United States on Monday is of great importance and seeks to strengthen the partnership between the two countries, said William Grant, acting US embassy in Doha.

Grant told a news conference in Doha that the visit would develop economic and security relations between the two sides, adding that he expected to announce a number of new agreements.

In response to reporters' questions, Grant said the talks would focus on issues related to the blockade of Qatar and Iran. "As the secretary of state said when he visited Qatar in January, the Gulf conflict has lasted too long. That the resolution of the conflict will be in the interest of all parties in the region, as well as in the interest of the United States.

"There's a new and exciting news on the horizon," Grant said through his Twitter account later.

Sheikh Tamim will begin an official visit to the United States on Monday and meet US President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday to discuss ways of developing strategic cooperation between the two countries in various fields and exchange views on the latest developments in the region and the world.

The visit includes meetings with senior administration officials and congressional members, as well as signing agreements and memorandums of understanding on defense, energy, investment and air transport.

An active and diverse relationship
The US charge d'affaires said that the relationship between Washington and Doha was "active and diverse" and that the visits of the Emir of Qatar to the United States help the two sides to define the agenda for cooperation.

The White House announced in early June this visit, then said it was based on the long partnership between the United States and Qatar, and it will strengthen the security relations and economic "deep" between the two countries.

It is noteworthy that Sheikh Tamim visited Washington in April 2018 and met at the White House President Trump, who said then that his country's relations are going well with Doha.
