A strong stormy episode hit the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region on Monday night, with no casualties.

The meteorological threat was lifted in all the departments placed in vigilance Orange, after a stormy episode accompanied by strong winds and hail Monday night. The storms ended before 2am on the Haute-Savoie and Ain, but their intensity only required a level of vigilance yellow, according to the Météo France bulletin published at 00:30.

The weather did not kill, but nearly 15,000 homes were still without power in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region Tuesday night. Heavy squalls and hail hit Monday night six departments placed in storms by Météo-France and affected particularly the Alps. Up to around 100,000 households were deprived of electricity, particularly in Isère, Savoie and Haute-Savoie. At 15 hours, says Enedis, more than 70% of homes were restored, but 28,000 homes remained without electricity, 22,000 in the Alps and 6,000 in the Rhone and Loire.

More than 350 agents mobilized to restore power

The network manager described the situation as "evolutionary, depending on possible new storms". More than 350 people were mobilized in the field. Previous storms, both violent and brief, accompanied by hail and strong gusts of wind, had already hit the area on June 15, killing a German tourist and doing serious damage on farms, for a bill that should be in the tens millions of euros.

This time, the firefighters were mostly called for fallen trees, torn roofs and flooding beginnings. They intervened 450 times in Savoie, 359 times in Haute-Savoie and 372 times in Isère.

The roof of a village hall collapses

Apart from a person seriously injured by the fall of a tree on his camper in Haute-Savoie, the storms have however caused only minor injuries. In Doussard in Haute-Savoie, the roof of the village hall fell partially during a rock concert attended by 200 people. The spectators are unscathed, the roof has gradually detached. In addition, 43 people on a cruise ship on Lake Annecy were rescued by other boats at midnight, their boat being immobilized 100 meters from the shore after a shock with the bottom caused by the waves.

A hundred participants in a television series shoot had to be supported on the road Semnoz in Haute-Savoie, their vehicles are blocked. In Isère, Ben Harper's concert at the Jazz à Vienne festival was canceled.
