Maarten van der Weijden has already raised more than 6.1 million euros for cancer research with his Eleven Cities Swimming Tour. He announced this on Friday evening during a ceremony in his hometown of Waspik.

Last Monday, Van Der Weijden finished in Leeuwarden after a three-day swimming trip of 195 kilometers. It was then announced that he had raised 3,910,763 euros so far.

38-year-old Van der Weijden is collecting money for cancer research with the Eleven Cities Swimming Tour.

Last year the long-distance swimmer raised 5 million euros with his swimming trip. Then he had to stop after 163 kilometers on the advice of his doctor.
