Two crew members of the passenger An-24RV aircraft were killed and more than 20 people were injured as a result of a hard landing of an aircraft in the north of Buryatia. The Angara aircraft turboprop aircraft with a RA-47366 tail number flew from Ulan-Ude to Nizhneangarsk when, according to preliminary information, one of the two engines refused from it.

“According to preliminary data, during a descent for calling at the airport in Nizhneangarsk about 30 km away from the airport, the crew reported a failure of the left engine and transmitted a“ Distress ”signal, the Federal Air Transport Agency reported.

At 10:24 local time (05:24 Moscow time), the pilots managed to land the plane in Nizhneangarsk, but it rolled out of the runway, crashed into one of the buildings of the ground infrastructure of the airport and caught fire.

“As a result of the collision a fire occurred. All 43 passengers were promptly evacuated. There are no casualties among the passengers, ”the airline’s press service reported.

Experts believe that rolling out of the lane may be due to engine failure.

In addition, it is reported that the aircraft was landing at an increased speed, which could also be one of the causes of the disaster. During the collision, the commander of the aircraft, the inspector-inspector Vladimir Kolomin and the flight mechanic Oleg Bardanov were killed. Both of them had a great work experience (34 and 35 years, respectively) and total hours flying (15 702 and 13 728, respectively). A total of 43 passengers and four crew members were on board. The co-pilot Sergei Sazonov and flight attendant Elena Laputskaya did not suffer, according to a press release from the Angara.

After an emergency landing of the An-24 in Nizhneangarsk, according to various sources, from 20 to 30 people turned to doctors for help. According to the press service of the government of Buryatia, three passengers were hospitalized: a 17-year-old boy with bruises, a 13-year-old boy with a preliminary diagnosis of “Closed head injury” and a woman with a fracture of the forearm bones. Also on board the aircraft, a two-year-old child was not injured.

“Among the passengers, 21 people requested medical assistance. Today there are no serious injuries, only light and moderate severity. All medical care is provided, ”said the head of the region, Aleksey Tsydenov.

He also expressed condolences to the relatives of the dead pilots and said that the government of Buryatia would provide all the necessary assistance to people who somehow suffered as a result of the incident. Tsydenov added that the fire that had arisen at the site of emergency was extinguished, the specialists were carrying out investigative actions to investigate the accident.

“The state of moderate severity, the operation is not required. Doctors do not fear for their lives. At the moment, there is no indication for evacuation, ”the regional Ministry of Health reported.

On the fact of the An-24 catastrophe at the airport of Nizhneangarsk, a criminal case was initiated on the grounds of a crime under Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of the rules of traffic safety and operation of air transport, resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence). The Investigation Committee reported that a complex of necessary actions is currently being carried out aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the incident. The case is transferred to the central office of the TFR.

Prior to overhaul in 1991, he worked as an aeronautical laboratory, after which he was converted into a passenger version. The current validity certificate of this aircraft expired on July 28, 2019.

Despite the fact that the front of the aircraft was completely destroyed during the fire, the flight recorders did not receive serious damage and are subject to decoding. They will be transferred to the Interstate Aviation Committee, which will investigate the incident.
