Kuwait's Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday morning and was received by Iraqi President Barham Salih on an official visit during which he will meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Halboussi.

The US-Iranian crisis is expected to top the issues the Emir of Kuwait will discuss with Iraqi officials.

According to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the visit comes within the framework of efforts to rapprochement and settle the outstanding problems between the two countries.

The visit comes after a visit by Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi to Kuwait in late May, and said at the time that his government is working to reset the problems between the two countries.

The visit of the Emir of Kuwait to Iraq is the second of its kind since the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, after the first year 2012 when he participated in the Arab summit in Iraq at the time.

Deputy Foreign Minister Khalid al-Jarallah said that the visit "comes within the framework of the distinguished brotherly relations between the two countries and also has important dimensions and vital signs."

He stressed that the visit would be an opportunity for the Kuwaiti ministers to discuss with their Iraqi counterparts on "ways to strengthen and develop cooperation between the two countries and resolve the outstanding issues between them."
