A 64-year-old man from Yorkshire (north of England) was arrested on Wednesday for manslaughter in the case of the death of footballer Emiliano Sala, the British police said.
The suspect was released after being held in police custody and cooperating with the investigators, the Dorset police (southern England) said in a statement, refusing to give further details about his identity.
The Argentinean player died at the age of 28 on 21 January when his plane crashed into the English Channel on his way to the Welsh capital, a few days after being transferred from FC Nantes to the Cardiff Club (Wales).
Emiliano Sala's body was located in the wreckage of the aircraft, 67 meters deep, and recovered on February 7, while that of the pilot of the aircraft, David Ibbotson, 59 years, has not been found.
In February, the British Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) determined that the aircraft carrying Emiliano Sala was not allowed to operate commercial flights.
According to information from the BBC, the pilot of the aircraft was not entitled to fly at night because he was color-blind and his license did not have the "night flight rating". Asked by AFP, the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) did not confirm this information, saying only that "the investigation of the AAIB was in progress".
