The British Times reported that more than 2,400 people have been sentenced to death in Egypt since Abdul Fattah al-Sisi took office.

The newspaper quoted the figures from Reprieve's rights group in Britain, which said that the death sentences in Egypt represent a crisis on the level of human rights.

Since Sisi took office in 2014 and death sentences have increased, she said 144 of them have been executed.

She concluded by saying that most of the verdicts were issued collectively, citing two trials in 2014 during which collective sentences were handed down to more than 1,000 people.
