It's a surprise. The Labor Party (PvdA) of the Netherlands won Thursday, May 23, the victory in the European elections, according to the first poll of exit of the polls realized by Ipsos. The latest polls before the vote, however, foreshadowed a victory for the nationalists.

The list led by European Commissioner Frans Timmermans is credited with more than 18% of the vote (26 seats), twice more than in 2014, while she was only in third position in the voting intentions. The People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) of Liberal Prime Minister Mark Rutte and The Forum for Democracy of the Nationalist Thierry Baudet, who were equal in the polls, take the second and third place respectively with 14% and 11% voices, according to Ipsos.

Dutch and British were the first to vote Thursday for the Europeans, which unfold until Sunday in all countries of the European Union (EU).
