A double-decker bus carrying 60 people turned over on a highway in Italy. More than 30 passengers were injured.

The accident occurred at about 9:30 local time on the highway connecting Siena and Florence near the city of Monteriggioni. Now the causes of the incident are being established.

The Russian Embassy in Italy told that one Russian woman died in an accident, another 19 Russian citizens were injured. In addition, among the victims are citizens of Armenia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Belarus and Georgia.

“According to the received lists, 19 Russians suffered, one woman died. Her identity is not revealed. A total of 33 people were admitted to two hospitals, four of them refused hospitalization. Basically, the victims received light injuries, ”the embassy said.

The videos and photographs from the scene show that the bus broke through the road fence and flew off the road, then fell on its right side. Later, the vehicle was removed from the cuvette using a crane.

Local media say that due to the vegetation outside the carriageway, the overturned bus stopped almost immediately. If there were no trees on the side of the road, the consequences of the accident could have been even more serious, the Italian edition wrote.

According to ANSA, the driver of the passenger car was checked for alcohol and drug content in the blood. A man, whose age ranges from 40 to 50 years, was taken to the police station, where he was interrogated. The mobile phone of the driver remained in the bus, the police plans to examine the contents of the device. In addition, a tachograph installed in the vehicle will be removed.

It is noted that from the road moment of the accident, none of the participants in the movement did not see. According to the agency, the overturned bus was noticed by lumberjacks who were working near the accident site.

The health service of the city of Siena opened a crisis center after the accident, doubled the number of staff on duty in the emergency room as well as in the offices of medical specialists who assist incoming patients.

“If necessary, seven operating rooms have been prepared, about 20 additional places in the postoperative rooms, intensive and sub-intensive treatment wards and other specialized departments. The regional blood center is ready to send additional volumes of blood components and provide interpreters for patients and their attendants, ”RIA Novosti reports.

Accident with Russian tourists and buses

From the beginning of 2019, Russian tourists got into several accidents with buses abroad.

In January, two such incidents occurred. On January 8, in Phuket Island (Thailand), a passenger car with Russian customers of the tour operator ANEX Tour collided with a truck. The driver was able to react quickly and managed to avoid serious consequences, no one was injured in the incident.

On January 1, a bus with 23 Russian tourists slid into a ditch and turned over in the Ushachsky district of the Vitebsk region of Belarus. One woman was taken to a medical facility, she was diagnosed with bruises, the other passengers were not injured.

At the end of 2018, Russian tourists were injured in an accident with a regular bus not far from Zurich in Switzerland. One person died in the accident, 44 were injured. Of these, ten people are citizens of the Russian Federation.
