The American diplomatic mission also thanked the president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, for the efforts that “he has made over the past five years to strengthen Ukraine’s security, prosperity and democracy,” as well as to strengthen relations with the United States.

“We hope to continue a strong partnership between Ukraine and the United States with the newly elected President Zelensky,” the embassy added.

Earlier Zelensky was congratulated by Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz. He advised him to engage in the fight against corruption in Ukraine.

According to the exit poll results, Vladimir Zelensky wins the presidential elections in Ukraine, gaining more than 70% of the vote.

According to the CEC, after processing 1.47% of the ballots, Zelensky receives 70.82% of the votes, Poroshenko - 26.82%.
