According to the vicar, by the end of the evening service the fire had already begun, but no one yet knew about it, so there was no panic among the parishioners.

“A few minutes later we already felt smoke, and looking at the cathedral, we saw fire at the base of the spire, in the middle of the roof - where everything is made of wood,” recalls Mars.

He noted the actions of the police and firefighters, who were on time at the scene of the incident and helped the people who left the cathedral.

The vicar said that the fire was for him a kind of embodiment of Holy Week, the crucifixion of Christ and the approaching Easter.

“When yesterday I saw the cross in the depths of the cathedral, illuminated by fire, it was the embodiment of what happens to us: the cross in fire, the statue of the Virgin Mary and the flame,” said Mars.

He also expressed the hope that the fire was caused by an accident.
