The terrorist militia "Islamic State" (IS) has claimed the attacks on churches and hotels in Sri Lanka for itself. "Islamic State Fighters" are responsible for the attacks, according to a succinct statement circulated by Amaq, the IS propaganda spokesman. In addition to the message there was no evidence for the crime.

In the series of attacks on a total of three five-star hotels and three churches more than 320 people were killed on Easter Sunday. Initial investigation results indicate, according to government, an act of revenge for the attack on two mosques in New Zealand. In mid-March, an Australian right-wing extremist had killed 50 people in Christchurch.

From police circles it was said, according to news agency AFP, for the suicide attacks on the two hotels were responsible for two Muslim brothers from Sri Lanka. The sons of a wealthy spice merchant had spent themselves as guests and blown up at the Shangri-La and Cinnamon Grand hotels.
