As a result of the strong wind, no start can be made on Tuesday with the removal of the overboard containers at the Wadden Islands. Due to the high waves, the salvage is not yet possible, says a Rijkswaterstaat spokesman.
The storage of containers has already been postponed several times because of the turbulent weather of the past few days. It is not clear when the operation can start now.
"We are going to view it per day, I'm not going to speculate about it," said the spokesperson. According to him, the salvage will last "several months".
A total of 291 containers were thrown overboard from the MSC Zoe in the night of 1 to 2 January. There are 238 localized, 18 washed up (of which 1 in Germany) and 7 recovered.
The contents of various containers washed up on the Wadden and the mainland of Friesland and Groningen.
