The death toll caused by the gas explosion in the center of Paris was adjusted from four to two on Saturday, French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner announced. The deadly victims were both firefighters.

The firefighters died because of the explosion when they were extinguishing a fire in a bakery. A third firefighter was injured. He is in danger of life.

Another nine people are in mortal danger and dozens of people were injured.

The explosion in the bakery happened around 9 am. Images from shortly afterwards show a huge havoc. There was shouting in the street and the front of the building was completely blown away. In addition, many windows have also been killed in buildings near the bakery.

Castaner says to live with the victims. "My first thoughts are with the injured and their loved ones," he reported on Twitter.

According to him, two hundred firefighters were deployed to offer help after the explosion.
