Earlier in Germany, France, Spain and the UK and several European countries they said they would recognize Guaido as the leader of Venezuela, if in the near future no decision is made in the country regarding the holding of elections.

On January 23, Guayido declared himself the interim head of state. Washington therefore called on the President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, to hand over power to him.

Maduro at the same time declared his readiness to fight the coup d'etat in the country to the end.

Political analyst Yuri Svetov, in an interview with Channel Five, commented on the situation in Venezuela.
