At least six people died: what is known about the fire in the house on Nikitsky Boulevard in the center of Moscow

On the night of Monday, February 4, a fire occurred in the residential building located at Nikitsky Boulevard, 12. At least six people, including one minor, were victims of a fire. The investigative committee opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Art. 109 of the Criminal Code (causing death by negligence of two or more persons).

"Investigators carry out a complex of urgent investigative actions aimed at identifying all the circumstances and causes of the incident," the ministry said.

It is noted that the work of the investigators at the scene is coordinated by the acting head of the Main Directorate, Andrei Strizhov.

According to the Emergencies Ministry, the message about the state of emergency came at 00:55. Firefighters and rescuers who arrived at the scene recorded an open burning from the windows of the apartments located on the fifth floor.

“Firemen have been fighting with fire for several hours in conditions of heavy smoke and high temperatures. The extinguishing of the fire was complicated by the fact that the building was an old building with wooden beams, ”the message says.

It was possible to localize the fire at 03:50, and the fire was completely eliminated at 05:10 on an area of ​​1 thousand square meters. According to the head of the Moscow Emergencies Headquarters, Ilya Denisov, the fire was assigned an increased level of complexity. At the same time, despite the fact that the house was disconnected from gas and electricity in a timely manner, there was cotton inside the building.

“Apparently there were aerosol cans in the room, which exploded due to the high temperature. Perhaps the remainder of the gas that remained in the gas system. It will be installed by specialists, ”explained Denisov.

Along with this, the source of RIA Novosti in emergency services stressed that the fight against fire was complicated by the fact that there was a partial collapse of the overlap between the fifth and sixth floors. According to preliminary data, the cause of emergency could be a malfunction of electrical equipment.

According to unconfirmed reports, the body of the seventh dead person was found at the scene of the incident.

At the same time, 42 people, including eight children, were evacuated during the fire. It is also known about the two victims, they are in serious condition at the Sklifosovsky Institute. According to media reports, one of the victims is a member of the Union of Artists, painting teacher Elena Lavreka.

In turn, the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, expressed condolences to the relatives and friends of those killed in the fire at the Nikitsky Boulevard.

“Two victims continue to be in Sklif. They are given all the necessary help, there is no threat to life. We find out the causes of what happened, ”he wrote on Twitter.

Object of cultural heritage

The structure that suffered from the fire has a protected status “identified cultural heritage site”. The full name of the building at Nikitsky Boulevard, 12, is as follows: “a residential building for employees of the Moscow office of the State Bank, 1915, c. Ing. B.M. Nilus, early. 1922-1925, arch. S.A. Krotov.

As noted in the press service of the Department of Cultural Heritage of Moscow, the house was in a satisfactory condition, three years ago it renovated facades. Upon the occurrence of the fire, the Moscow City Heritage Agency sent a request to the capital headquarters of the Ministry of Emergency Situations with a request to provide information "on the causes of fire and the damage caused."
