LONDON (Reuters) - A British Airways plane accidentally landed at Edinburgh's Scottish Airport on Friday from London to Dusseldorf, the British Airways said. The passengers realized what had happened only after the landing and heard "Welcome to Edinburgh."

After realizing the wrong crew, the crew was refueled to take off again towards Dusseldorf, which arrived at a delay of more than three and a half hours from the basic date.

"We are working with WDL Aviation, which is traveling on behalf of British Airways to determine the causes of this error," a British Airways spokeswoman said.

British Airways said in a statement: "We apologize to customers for this flaw in their trip and we will contact them all individually. It was not yet known how many passengers were affected by the mistake.

She said the pilot had made no mistake on the way, but the fault was caused by paperwork, which made the air traffic control office in Edinburgh allow the aircraft to follow the route.

One passenger said passengers waited at Edinburgh airport and ate all the food on the plane.
