Dusseldorf (dpa) - In the large-scale raid against clannocracy in the Ruhr area 14 people have been arrested and several hundred kilograms of untaxed tobacco seized.
The police wrote during the night use 100 criminal charges, as the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday. Ten weapons such as banned knives and telescopic batons and several thousand euros in cash had been secured.
About 1300 police officers had struck on Saturday evening at the same time, among others, in Dortmund, Essen, Duisburg, Recklinghausen, Bochum and Gelsenkirchen. Overall, more than 1500 people and over 100 hookah bars, betting shops, gambling halls and discos have been controlled. 25 companies had to be closed by the authorities because of building rights or hygiene shortcomings immediately.
According to the NRW Ministry of the Interior, this was the biggest raid against clan crime in the history of the state. It is about the suspicion of money laundering, tax evasion and moonlighting. The mission lasted until the morning hours.
