Ligue 1: Mostafa Mohamed, the decisive Pharaoh of FC Nantes

For his second season in Ligue 1, Egyptian Mostafa Mohamed now seems to have made his mark with Nantes with five goals since the start of the championship. He has also just been recalled to the selection for the next FIFA days for the friendly matches against Zambia and Algeria.

Irresistible! Since the start of the season, Egypt international Mostafa Mohamed has scored five goals in six games. Enough to equal the Chadian Japhet N'Doram who had also started the France Championship on a high (1995-1996), with the same statistic.

Honored to stay in Nantes

Indispensable for the Canaries, Mostafa Mohamed had been talked about last spring for something else. The player had refused to wear the rainbow jersey during Toulouse-Nantes (0-0), as part of the day of fight against homophobia organized by the LFP. His club had sanctioned him financially.

If he was no longer really desired at the end of last season, the Egyptian can now ensure alone in front. The Pharaoh should do better than his eight goals last season in Ligue 1. He had started just 18 times out of 36 games played in his first year in France. The native of Giza near Cairo was on loan from Galatasaray.

For the 2023-2024 season, FC Nantes decided to lift the purchase option on July 1 and signed the finalist of the CAN 2021 with a contract until the summer of 2027.

«

I am very honoured to stay in Nantes, proud to belong to this club and I hope to achieve great things. I want to thank the president, the general manager and the coach," he said after his signing. He added: "The first year in France, I needed time to adapt to the environment. I gained experience. But my goal is to train more, to work more to earn my place, that's the contract I made with myself."

Mostafa Mohamed has announced that he wants to score 20 goals this season. The unfortunate 2020 African Champions League finalist with Zamalek seems to be off to a good start.
