The Berlin public prosecutor's office has indicted three men in the case of an alleged gang rape in Görlitzer Park in Kreuzberg. She accuses them of particularly serious rape, dangerous bodily injury and particularly aggravated robbery, a spokesman said. The 22 and 21-year-old men have been in custody since their arrest in late July and early August, respectively.
According to the prosecutor's office, the youngest defendant denies the attack on a 27-year-old woman and her husband. The two 22-year-olds have not yet commented on the allegations, it said.
According to media reports, the couple is said to have been lying on a meadow in the park in the early hours of June 21 morning and kissing. They had been observed by drug dealers. According to the indictment, the accused then hit the man with sticks and branches at around five o'clock and snatched the 27-year-old's fanny pack with 1200 euros.
Fence construction planned
The men, who, according to the public prosecutor's office, have Somali, Guinea-Bissau or Guinean citizenship, are said to have stolen his handbag and mobile phone from his wife and forced her to perform oral sex. When the 27-year-old defended herself, the men allegedly pushed her to the ground. One of them is said to have raped her. According to the indictment, they prevented the husband from intervening by continuing to torture him with sticks and branches.
The case has once again sparked a discussion about security measures in Görlitzer Park, which is one of Berlin's crime hotspots, mainly because of drug trafficking. Last week, another couple was attacked and robbed in the park, police said. The black-red government is planning to close the plant at night. For this purpose, a fence is to be erected around the park. According to the will of Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU), this should be in place by the beginning of 2024 at the latest.
