London's Metropolitan Police have opened an investigation into "several alleged sexual offences" against actor Russell Brand following media reports.

These are "not recent" accusations, as reported by the London Police in a statement that refers to the joint investigation of the Channel 4 Dispatches program and 'The Sunday Times' that has led to "the Metropolitan Police has received several complaints of sexual crimes in London. "

"We have also received several complaints of sexual crimes perpetrated in other parts of the country that will also be investigated," the police force explained. The investigation will be led by detectives from the Central Command for Specialized Crime led by Superintendent Andy Furphy.

"We continue to encourage anyone who believes they have been the victim of a sex crime to contact us no matter how much time has passed," police said. "We understand that it can be a difficult step to take and I want to assure you that we have a team of specialist officers for advice and support," added the police statement, picked up by the British press.

The journalistic investigation reveals accusations by four women against Brand for rape and abuse against them. One of them was a minor at the time of the events. Brand has denied the facts and says all the relationships were consensual.
