The shortlist for the German Book Prize has been announced: The nominees are Terézia Mora (»Muna oder Die Halb des Lebens«), Necati Öziri: (»Vatermal«), Anne Rabe (»The Possibility of Happiness«), Tonio Schachinger (»Echtzeitalter«), Sylvie Schenk (»Maman«) and Ulrike Sterblich with the novel »Drifter«. This was announced by the jury on Tuesday in Frankfurt am Main. The winner will then be announced at the award ceremony on 16 October, at the start of the Frankfurt Book Fair.
This year, a total of 196 novels from 113 German-language publishers were in the running. In August, the seven-member jury announced its pre-selection, the longlist of 20 titles.
The German Book Prize is considered one of the most important awards in the industry and has been awarded since 2005. It is not until the evening of the award ceremony on 16 October that the six authors will find out which of them will receive the German Book Prize. The prize is endowed with a total of 37,500 euros: the winner receives 25,000 euros, the other authors on the shortlist 2500 euros each. Last year, 124 publishers submitted 202 works. The prize then went to Kim de l'Horizon for the novel »Blood Book«.
