There are still nine places to take to go to the CAN 2024 after the end of the fifth day concluded Tuesday evening, June 20 by the victory of Mauritania in Sudan (3-0). Before the sixth, and last day, many big cadors have assured, and the suspense remains for Cameroon or DR Congo.

Most of the big ones will be in Côte d'Ivoire. The defending champions, Senegal, and Algeria had already validated their ticket in March. Nigeria and Egypt also ensured their side during this 5th day which saw the return to the CAN of South Africa and Zambia. The first had missed the 2022 edition in Cameroon, while the second had not been invited to the African Cup since 2015. Cape Verde will win a second CAN for the first time, as will Equatorial Guinea, quarter-finalist in Cameroon.
Qualified teams: Côte d'Ivoire (host country) Algeria, Tunisia, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, Morocco, Egypt, South Africa, Zambia, Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, Mali, Guinea 15
The campaigns follow one another and are similar for many "little ones" who do not manage to exist already in the qualifications, before dreaming of participation. Sao Tome and Principe, and Lesotho, no AFCON to their credit, have scored only one point in the first five days. Madagascar, sensation of the CAN 2019, with a quarter-finalist place, has still not won a match and finds itself last in Pool E with only two points. The Comoros, they will not repeat the feat after a first qualification in 2022. The Coelacanths did not survive in Pool H dominated by Zambia and Ivory Coast.
Eliminated teams: Botswana, Libya, Madagascar, Lesotho, Sao Tome and Principe, Liberia, South Sudan, Niger, Togo, Sierra Leone, Eswatini, Comoros, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Malawi
On the sixth and final day in early September, all eyes will be on Group I, the only one where there is no team either qualified or eliminated. DR Congo was very close to the exit, but its precious victory against Gabon (2-0), completely revived it and deprived the Panthers of a qualification that stretched their arms. Mauritania-Gabon and DR Congo Sudan will be worth a visit on this last day.
Cameroon is not yet qualified, but a draw will be enough in September against Burundi to validate its ticket. Same scenario for Gambia who can chain a second CAN after starting the qualifiers with two defeats. The Central African Republic dreams of a first participation, it will go through a feat: a victory in Ghana...
The teams still in the race: DR Congo, Gabon, Sudan, Mauritania, Ghana, Angola, Central African Republic, Namibia, Cameroon, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, Gambia, Congo, Mozambique, Benin.
