An eleven-year-old girl has been shot dead in Brittany in western France during a neighborhood dispute. The parents of the child were also injured by gunfire on Saturday evening, the father severely, as the public prosecutor's office in Quimper announced on Sunday.

The shooter, a 71-year-old Dutchman, initially barricaded himself with his wife in his house and was surrendered by special police forces.

As media reported with reference to the police, the victims are a British family. Another eight-year-old girl in the family remained unharmed, according to the prosecutor's office, but is in shock.

Conflict over a piece of land

According to the initial state of the investigation, the pensioner suddenly appeared in the evening with a firearm and fired several times at the family, who were in their garden in the village of Plonevez-du-Faou.

The reasons are not yet known, said prosecutor Carine Halley. Apparently, there had been a conflict between the two neighbors for several years over a piece of land bordering the two properties. Investigations have been launched into intentional homicide.
