During a parachute jump on Friday afternoon, a 55-year-old woman crashed near Düren in Saarland, according to police, and was fatally injured. The woman from Bavaria had jumped at an airfield in a group with others, said a police spokesman.

According to previous findings, both her main parachute and a reserve parachute opened, but did not slow down the woman's jump as much as it should have been. How this could have happened is unclear. Attempts to resuscitate the 55-year-old had failed, the woman had died at the crash site. Investigations are ongoing.
