The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) has ordered the withdrawal and cessation of marketing of the household disinfectant Optisana Alcohol 96º with benzalkonium chloride antiseptic for healthy skin as well as its withdrawal in stores as it is not labeled correctly.

This disinfectant is distributed to the general public through common shops and supermarkets so, perhaps, you will find it in your medicine cabinet.

The alert issued by AEMPS affects this 96º alcohol with registration number 678-DES and lot number 30362, the agency reports on its website.

The contents of the container is hydrogen peroxide (hydrogen peroxide), while the label indicates that it is ethyl alcohol 96º reinforced with benzalkonium chloride so the product would violate the regulations by having an incorrect labeling.

The manufacturer, Laboratorios Montplet, S.L.U, has received the order of the Ministry of Health to adopt the precautionary measures of cessation of the commercialization of the biocidal product and its use as well as the withdrawal of the affected units from all establishments.

The AEMPS has informed about these measures to the health authorities of the autonomous communities, the Spanish Association of Supermarkets (ASEDAS) and the Association of Supermarket Chains (ACES).
