The American television personality Carlson on Tuesday launched a new version of his news program on Twitter, something that Fox believes is a breach of contract. In a statement to Axios, Carlson's lawyers said that if Fox takes legal action against Carlson, they are violating his freedom of speech.

On April 24, the broadcaster announced that it was cutting ties with Carlson, who was the most popular prime-time host.

Left after high-profile lawsuit

The company did not provide an explanation for the decision, but just days before that, Fox had settled with Dominion Voting Systems, which had sued the company for defamation.

The lawsuit centered on allegations that Fox hosts, such as Carlson, knew then-President Donald Trump's claims of election fraud were untrue — yet continued to make them on his shows.
