With regard to the support system for victims of crime, the government has decided to fundamentally review and strengthen efforts to expand the system, including considering a substantial increase in the benefits paid to victims and bereaved families.

At a meeting of experts on June 6, the government decided to fundamentally review and strengthen efforts to expand the support system so that crime victims and bereaved families can receive the necessary support without interruption regardless of the nature of the damage and their living environment.

Regarding benefits paid to crime victims and bereaved families, the current system, in which the amount is determined based on the income of the victims at the time of the incident, has been requested by bereaved families and others, and the calculation method will be reviewed.

Specifically, the government will consider a substantial increase in the amount of benefits in anticipation of civil court compensation, and will reach a conclusion on the revised measures within one year.

In addition, we will introduce a new system for support by lawyers, consider a comprehensive support system that allows lawyers to negotiate with investigative authorities and perpetrators as agents immediately after an incident, and expand the scope of the burden of attorneys' fees, which is currently only partially covered, and prepare the necessary legislation within one year.

In addition, since the support system for victims of crime covers a wide range of fields, including medical care, housing, education, and tax payment, we will create an environment that is easy for victims to use while sharing information among related ministries and agencies.
