The Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced that 11 businesses that were conducting PCR tests for the new coronavirus free of charge had fraudulently applied for subsidies from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government by inflating the number of tests, and the total amount amounted to 183.17 billion yen, and about <>.<> billion yen was granted.

This was announced by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Welfare and Public Health Bureau on the 2nd.

From December to last month, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has been conducting a project that allows people to receive tests such as PCR for the new coronavirus free of charge, and subsidies are provided to implementing businesses according to the results of the tests.

Upon receiving applications from business operators, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government scrutinized 12 of the 588 businesses that were inspected, and took measures such as canceling subsidies or ordering their returns, citing fraudulent applications for subsidies.

According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the main fraud was the reporting of false results such as inflating the number of tests, and there were unnatural points such as the number of cases being higher than that of laboratories of the same size and increasing while the number of infected people decreased, so we confirmed the fraud by checking with the operator.

The total amount of fraudulent applications amounted to approximately 11.183 billion yen, of which more than 16.7000 billion yen was granted.

While some businesses have admitted fraud and responded to the return, others have not admitted fraud, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will provide information to the Metropolitan Police Department and will continue to investigate.

A TMG official said, "It is unfortunate that there has been fraud in a business covered by taxes, and we will thoroughly investigate and deal with it strictly."
