With the sunny days returning, you may be tempted to take solar capsules to take a little color and tan faster. Bad idea! A study shows that people who have taken dietary supplements for several years to prepare their skin for the sun, have a four times higher risk of developing skin cancer.

Warning, danger? Taking suncapsules to tan faster would multiply the risk of skin cancer. This is revealed by a study carried out with a panel of people who have taken dietary supplements for several years. At issue: the commercial message that encourages you to "prepare your skin for the sun" by taking sun capsules. A false message, warns Anne Bellut, general secretary of the national union of dermatologists.

"It assumes that you can prepare your skin for the sun that with medication, you will protect yourself from the risk of skin cancer and the risk of skin aging. It is to falsely reassure people who will believe they are authorized to expose themselves without precaution and excessively, "says the specialist.

A misunderstanding of patients

And the cases of people who imagine themselves protected thanks to these solar pills, Anne Bellut often receives in consultation. "People who have skin cancer because they have exposed themselves too much and who show a misunderstanding because they had the feeling of protecting their skin by taking these dietary supplements," she says. "They are very surprised when they are told that the skin does not prepare for the sun."

The dermatologist reminds that the best way to protect yourself from the risk of skin cancer is to wear clothes and supplement with sunscreen every two hours.
